Fourth Grade

fourth gradeWelcome to the Grade Four at Cynthia Heights! Our three, fantastic fourth-grade teachers look forward to seeing your youngsters every day in class. Hopefully, this information will help answer some of the questions you many have about fourth grade. If you have a more specific question, please feel free to contact the school at 435-8740.

In math, fourth-grade students extend the facts they learned in grade three. Multiplication facts are mastered, and division facts are introduced. Many exciting lessons are taught throughout the year that meet and exceed Indiana State Standards!

Social studies is focused on Indiana History. Students learn many interesting facts about the “Hoosier State.” Some of our field trips may include: New Harmony, Vincennes, and Angel Mounds!

Reading is a major focal point at Cynthia Heights. Daily, students have silent reading time. This allows boys and girls to read books of interest, not something assigned. Our Book Buck Program enriches the curriculum even further. The PTA sponsored, Celebration of Reading is a HUGE success and is enjoyed annually by all!

Science and health receive more emphasis in fourth grade. (Science will be tested for the first time on the ISTEP+ exam in fourth grade.) There are many hands-on activities to help children understand the difficult concepts related to these subjects. Knowledge of self and developing sound decision-making skills are emphasized in health classes.

Physical Education, art, and music are now graded subjects. These classes allow students to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in different modalities and in entertaining ways. These courses provide a well-rounded curriculum for our students.

Extracurricular activities are also available to our fourth-grade students. Some activities are: chess club, student council, choir, intramural sports, wrestling, varsity basketball, volleyball, and soccer.
