PTA

PTACynthia Heights Elementary School welcomes and encourages parent involvement. We are proud of the tremendous number of parents that are involved in the education of their children and support of our school. Our PTA has won numerous local and state awards that attest to the strong commitment our parents at Cynthia Heights have for students and school!

PTA activities include:
• P.A.L.S. Program (Partners Add Learning Skills) is organized by our school counselor. Volunteers come in weekly to assist children with learning skills.

• Staff Assistance Committee is made up of parent volunteers that assist staff/teachers in any area in which they may need extra help, especially at the beginning of the new school year!

• Safe Halloween Party is sponsored by the PTA. Parents organize a fun night for the children to dress up and play games, win prizes, and enjoy lots of treats in a safe environment.

• A Book Fair is held in the fall for the students and parents to shop for their favorite books. Our Media Aide and parent volunteers make this a successful event.

• Our Science Fair is sponsored by the PTA and supported by our teachers. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade may participate. Parental assistance on the projects is encouraged. Our students learn that science can be fun!

• Celebration of Reading is our PTA’s largest, award-winning project. It is a day-long festival in the spring to reward the students for all the reading they have done throughout the school year. This project would not be possible without the support of our parents and staff. Earning “Book Bucks” all through the year pays off in May!

• PTA parents come in every Wednesday to pop popcorn for the students during their lunch. Our students look forward to popcorn day!

• Room Parents organize two parties each year for our children. They also help teachers with field trips and special projects in their rooms.
• A yearbook is put together every year for students and families to enjoy.

• A Fifth-Grade Committee, sponsored by the PTA, consists of parents who organize a variety of special events for the fifth-grade class.

• PTA sponsors a Citizenship Essay and Reflections Contest. PTA parents work closely with teachers to promote student participation. Cynthia Heights has had students win at the state level!

• Grandparents/VIP Day gives the students an opportunity to show their grandparents or that special VIP in their life what they do at school each day. This is a really special day for students and their special visitors!
• Parents have “stepped up” to coach chess club, volleyball, girls' and boys' basketball, and wrestling. They also support our intramural basketball program for all grade levels.

• Parents work with our vocal music teacher to organize and produce a school-wide variety show. There are lots of talented students showcased at this annual event!

• With the support of many parents, we continue to participate in our Westside Community Fall Festival. This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, and teachers to get to know each other as they work together in our school booth.
